Overview

Hair Professional Level 2 Apprenticeship

There are two distinctly different job roles within this occupational profile: Hairdresser and Barber. Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men.

College attendance

Bedford College (Brooks) – Monday or Wednesday.

Central Bedfordshire College – Monday.

College Day Release intakes

Day release begins in September.

Bedford College (Brooks) – As soon as employment starts.

Central Bedfordshire College – September.

Course Content

The apprenticeship covers a range of Skills Knowledge and Behaviours.

Whilst studying you will be supported throughout the programme to develop:

  • Health and Safety
  • Consultation services
  • Shampoo and condition hair & scalp
  • Cut hair using a range of techniques
  • Perform a range of chemical services
  • Style, set, dress and finish hair
  • Provide a positive impression of yourself

Entry requirements

Desirable:

  • Maths Grade 9-4 and English Grade 9-4

Other requirements…

  • A passion for the Hairdressing industry.
  • Able to travel to Brooks Bedford or Central Bedfordshire College Dunstable campus
  • Able to provide models for in salon assessments and EPA

  • Consultation
  • Shampoo and condition
  • Cutting services on both short and styles
  • Style dress and finishing on both short and long hair
  • Hair up
  • Colouring services
  • Perming services

Course progression:

  • Progression to Level 3 Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship
  • Barbering

Career progression:

  • Potential Full-time employment options on completion, 2 years in industry experience as well as transferrable skills.
  • Career role progression  – Stylist.
Additional information 

The following PPE/Equipment is required:

  • Hairdressing Kit
  • Block Heads 2 for the first year
  • College tunic / uniform

£350 (tbc) –  in addition, 2 further blocks for 2nd year.

Apprentice usually pays for this.
