Hair and Beauty (Level 1)This course is designed to give an insight into the Hair and Beauty sector. Your year will be spent learning about hairdressing, beauty and make-up. You will learn about applying make-up, performing beauty treatments and styling hair.

Entry requirements
3 GCSEs grades 9-1 and a keen interest in Hair and Beauty. Other relevant levels of qualification or experience will be considered.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of methods for each unit. There are exams on the course, these are multiple choice on a computer. Within each unit you will complete written tasks, and complete a set number of practical assessments.
Course content
What units will I study?
This course will give you an introduction to several different aspects of working in the hair and beauty sector.
The units that you will cover are:
- Temporary Hair Colour
- Retail Displays
- Health and Safety
- Hand Care
- Skin Care
- Shampoo and Conditioning
- Styling Hair
- Make-up Application
- Hair Plaiting
What additional work outside of college will I need to do?
You will be given short tasks to complete each week, which form the basis for your coursework.

Equipment and other costs
You will need to purchase a kit. This will be used in all of your practical sessions, and is yours to keep at the end of the course.
You will also be required to purchase a t-shirt (£10.50) and to wear suitable black trousers and black shoes for each lesson,
