GCSE Science

The GCSE Combined Science course offers science for all with both theory and practical skills development. The course provides an opportunity for those who have studied outside the UK or were unsuccessful in obtaining GCSE Science in school and now require this for their career (such as in healthcare or teaching).

The course covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics and includes practical skills thereby providing a foundation for further study and or employment. The course is branded as ‘science for all’ so develops transferable skills in critical thinking and being inquisitive about the world around us.

Course content

You will study:

Units in Biology including cell biology, infection and the immune response, and inheritance, variation and evolution.

Units in Chemistry including atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical changes and analysis, and chemistry of the atmosphere.

Units in Physics including electricity, forces, waves, and electromagnetism.

Next steps

Course progression:

Alongside GCSEs in English and mathematics, this ‘double award’ GCSE enables progression to Level 3 courses by providing the 4 GCSE requirement.

Career progressions:

Animal care and management, healthcare, laboratory science.

Additional information

Laboratory coats and PPE will be provided by the college.
