Game Development HND (Full time)The HND Game Development course is designed to equip students with the skills needed for a successful career in the games industry.

Course information
- Level 4 qualification within Games, Media, Art & Design or IT
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above
Teaching will be delivered through a mix of dynamic and interactive lectures and workshops. Your learning will be an engaging and enjoyable experience delivered through a variety of methods by skilled lecturers with industry experience. You will have a mix of practicals, workshops, in-person industry talks and learning how to use new techniques and software.
You will delve into the intricacies of Games Development, focusing on the creation of professionally detailed levels that not only tell a story but also entice exploration.
Harnessing the power of industry-standard tools like Maya, Unity, and Unreal game engines, you’ll master the art of rigging and bring your own 3D protagonists to life from scratch.
Module Overview:
B2-1 Environmental Storytelling: Design captivating game levels that go beyond aesthetics, invoking narratives that captivate players and encourage exploration.
B2-2 Protagonist: Learn to rig and develop your own 3D protagonist using specialist software like Maya, Unity, and Unreal, honing your skills to industry standards.
B2-3 Live-Brief Projects: Immerse yourself in real-world scenarios with live-brief projects set by industry professionals. This hands-on experience will prepare you for the challenges of the gaming industry.
B1 Final Major Project: Create a dynamic final project. Consolidate your learning and engage with the industry on your specific discipline. This project is your opportunity to showcase everything you’ve learned and create a piece that truly stands out.
You will be assessed through coursework, presentations and deadline submissions throughout the academic year. You will have formative assessment (minimum of 3 times a year) and summative assessment (at least twice a year).
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the Higher National Diploma in Game Development (Level 5).
By the end of HND Level 5, you will possess a solid understanding of the principles in your area of specialist study. Armed with this knowledge, you’ll be well-prepared to perform effectively in your chosen field, be it advancing to Level 6 or launching your career in game development.
You are expected to bring your own Art & Design equipment, such as a sketchbook, pens, and pencils. It is essential that you purchase a hard-drive for use during the course.
In-studio colour, laser, and 3D printing is provided free of charge.
Travel costs for visits and trips are to be covered by the student.
