As a result of studying Floristry at Shuttleworth College, I decided I wanted to open my own business.
I gained a lot more than floristry experience during my time at College, I also learned about the administration side of floristry, such as organising flower orders in a logical, effective, and efficient way. I do a variety of different things from gifts and weddings to preserving flowers in resin.
To begin this study programme you will need…
- 4 GCSEs at grades 9-4 or equivalent, ideally including English and maths
- Floristry at Level 2
- Principles of health and safety
- Undertake and review work related experience in the land based industries
- Principle of the creative design process in floristry
- Plant and flower care Tied floral designs
- Floral designs in a medium
- Wired floral designs
- Glued floral designs
- Business management and marketing in floristry
- Trends in the floristry industry
- Event floristry
English and maths:
If you don’t already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills.
- You are required to complete 150 hours of work experience as part of your study programme and mandatory unit: Employer Involvement.
- Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills
Additional vocational learning and qualifications:
You will have the opportunity to visit floristry events, flower markets and take part in competitions. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in commercial work.
A variety of assessment methods will be used, including presentations, case studies, portfolios and practical assessments. The study programme will require you to complete two theory exams and one synoptic assignment (externally set).
Floristry NPTC Level 3 Diploma
Plus English and maths qualifications if required. You can also gain up to 72 UCAS points.
Floristry is a diverse industry, and this study programme will also help prepare you for potential employment in private and corporate floristry, sales and marketing, buying for flower companies, creative demonstrations and event work.
If commuting to Shuttleworth College will be difficult for you, then you can choose to live in our halls of residence on campus. Priority is given to those who live the furthest distance from the College so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. To take part in this course you will be required to pay £950 for flower costs over the year. There will also be non-compulsory trips at approximately £300.
