Ella

I’ve always been interested in fashion and textiles. While I enjoyed studying Art at school, I preferred hands-on work rather than drawing and painting. I looked around at opportunities to study Textiles after my GCSEs and found Bedford College.

I chose to study here because of the quality of the sketchbooks of current students; they were amazing. Now, two years on, my sewing skills have greatly improved, I’ve made numerous garments and have really enjoyed developing design ideas within my own sketchbook.

I’ve also explored print screening and made a paper dress. I was really proud of the print I designed to go on greeting cards and wrapping paper. The title of the project was ‘Words and Meanings’. We had to create spider diagrams of seven different words and then take one into a design concept. I decided to look into the work ‘secrecy’ and developed my print from there.

The tutors at College are fantastic and you can work at your own pace. I like to be very neat and accurate in my work and the tutors always encourage this.

I am going to the University of Portsmouth in September to study Fashion & Textiles and I’m looking forward to exploring all the different opportunities within the industry.
