OverviewEducation & Childcare Assisting Teaching Level 3 (T Level)
This is an exciting new course that has a mixture of technical knowledge and work placement to give you the skills and experience you need to work with children. You will explore child development, childhood theories and learn how to support children’s development in early years and primary schools settings. The industry placement requirement for this specialism is a minimum of 750 hours, where you will be assessed in real work situations giving you a licence to practice in Early Years on completion of the course.
T Levels are a new qualification designed to give you a head start towards the future you want. They are a progression opportunity after completing your GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels. The 2-year qualification brings classroom and work placement together, on a course designed with employers and businesses, giving you a licence to practice in Early Years on completion of the course.
4 GCSEs grade 4-9 (or A*-C) including English Language and Mathematics. We will also consider those who have a previous level 2 qualification in childcare e.g. Level 2 Diploma for Early Years Educator as long as English and maths GCSEs grade 4-9 (or A*-C) has also been achieved.
A satisfactory reference and a clear DBS check is required. It is a requirement of the industry that all those working and/or training in an Early Years Settings must undergo a Disclosure Barring Services Check (DBS) at the enhanced level.
Please be aware that if the DBS check comes back, with anything being flagged that may be of some concern, your application could be withdrawn.
Previous work experience with children will support your application.
In the first year, both pathways will have the same content for the Core Elements and Core Skills, as this is mandatory to any role working with Children and Young People.
In the second year is where you will specialise in the chosen focus area/age range.

Assisting Teaching Pathway – Year Two
Year Two will enhance the learning from year one and use this to work towards the knowledge and skills within the performance outcomes listed below.
- Performance outcome 1: Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups
- Performance outcome 2: Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults
- Performance outcome 3: Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people
- Performance outcome 4: Recognise, adapt and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with SEND, to support development and access the curriculum
Education and Childcare T Level – NCFE/CACHE – L3 – T’Level
Placement will take place two days a week over the two years of the qualification. All of the placements will be offered in nurseries, pre-schools, primary schools and/or children’s centres. Ideally you will remain in the same placement for the duration of the course so that you can build up professional relationships and enhance your skills further.
Level 3 Award Paediatric First Aid
You will be assessed by a variety of internal and external assessments, which include exams and assignment based projects. You will also be assessed whilst out in the workplace with observations carried out by both placement officers and employers. The T-Level programmes are Exam based Assessments at the end of each year, these exams will be a mixture of External Set Papers and Controlled Assessments.
T Levels get you work ready, but you can continue studying with a higher apprenticeship or degree. Higher Education programmes include e.g. primary school teaching, early childhood studies degrees, paediatric nursing, leading to employment as Primary and Nursery Education Teaching Professionals, Paediatric nursing, (Children) play therapist.
T Levels are designed with businesses and employers, to make sure you have the skills and knowledge they are looking for in an employee.
Students who achieve this qualification could progress to the following, depending on their chosen occupational specialism: Early years practitioner, Early years educator, Education technician, Primary/secondary Learning Support, learning mentor, Pastoral worker, student engagement officer.
Learners should expect to be in college between 9am and 5pm on college days. Placement times can vary according to the setting. Holidays cannot be sanctioned during the college term. 100% attendance at college and placement is expected.
