Early Years Intermediate (Level 2)

The course is designed to provide the knowledge
and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7
years of age with applied knowledge in the early years (birth to 5 years). Alongside this learners will have the opportunity to undertake a qualification in Paediatric first aid. \you will complete 250 hours in placement, giving you a license to practice.

Completing this over 2 years will allow you the opportunity to achieve your maths and English. It will give you a license to practice and you will complete a Paediatric first aid qualification.

Entry requirements

Essential:

  • Maths or English at Grade 3.
  • 3 GCSEs on top of this at grade 2/3

Qualification gained

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Extended Technical Occupational Entry for the Early Years Practitioner.

Assessment methods

Continuous assessment, including in setting.

Course content

You will study:

During the study programme you will learn a variety of topics and concepts including child development, child observation, safeguarding and play.

Examples of subject units:

  • Introducing the role of the early years practitioner
  • Legislation, framework and professional practice
  • Play, development and learning for school
  • Professional development

If you do not already have GCSE English and maths grade 9-4 (A*-C), this will be included as part of your study programme.

During the study programme you will attend a childcare placement weekly.

As part of your study programme, you will take part in enrichment opportunities, including a variety of trips, to support the development of knowledge, skills and behaviour to prepare you for progression to further study or industry roles.

You will also study a Paediatric first aid qualification.

Course progression:

Level 3 – Access, Apprenticeship or Work Based learning dependent on age at time of application or full time employment

Career progressions:

Early Years practitioner.

ÂŁ75 per year for trips and uniform costs.
