This course will give you skills to apply the principles of photography (developed on the Introduction to Photography course) to a more sophisticated level. This course has a focus on extending your technical ability and introduces studio lighting and flash techniques.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of the Introduction to Photography course.

Other requirements

Essential: Your own digital SLR camera.

Desirable: Enthusiasm for the subject.

Course content

What will I study?

Building on your prior knowledge of digital photography to enable you to improve your photography skills.

Understand how to work in a photography studio, location photography, presentation methods and portfolio building. You will produce a portfolio of studio and location photographs using different lighting techniques.

Next steps

On successful completion you can apply to study at advanced level, or degree-level on individual units. Alternatively you can use the course to develop a practical portfolio in order to apply for a HND course.

Additional information

You will need a Digital SLR camera and will also need to pay for any printing of your photographs from disk.

Funding Information

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
