Creative Media Production - Animation Intermediate (Level 2)

The Animation Level 2 course is a one year introductory course that will allow you to explore key areas of Animation, Games design and Illustration.

During this course you will learn all the skills and techniques you need to progress onto Level 3 Games Design, Level 3 Graphic Design and Animation or Level 3 Media.

The main topics you will be looking at are : Character design, Animation, digital illustration, storyboard and script writing, 2D animation and introduction to 3D modelling, 2D Games design research, animation research and principals of movement and expression.

This program allows you to study English and Maths GCSE alongside your course.

Need to know

Entry requirements

  • You will need 3 GCSEs at Grade 3
  • An interest in Animation
  • Some art experience would help but is not essential

No previous experience is required, although it is desirable. However, for interview you maybe asked to bring a small portfolio of artwork/ showreel in order to demonstrate your creative ability.

Assessment methods

Research

  • Art direction and idea development
  • Character design that could lead to;
  • 2D animation software production
  • 3D introduction to modelling
  • 2D Games design
  • Use of digital software to realise special effects

There is also assessment concerning your ability to follow production processes and basic principles of animation/special effects.

All units are continuously assessed through your projects. Each unit has its own set of assessments criteria, these will tell you exactly what you need to do to obtain a particular grade.
