Computing Vocational Studies (Level 1)

This course gives you the opportunity to acquire and develop generic, transferable and sector specific skills. Successful completion of the course demonstrates a level of achievement that enables you to progress to further learning. The course will help you to develop skills that will be valuable in a variety of full-time employment opportunities.

The course allows you to explore different sectors.

You will be studying units from IT, Business, and Travel and Tourism:

  • The IT skills you will learn can be applied in many sectors
  • The business skills you will learn will increase your employability in many sectors
  • The travel & tourism skills you will learn will help you to understand the importance of good customer relations in all sectors

This course is designed to prepare you for progression to a Level 2 study programme. Completion of the course, alongside maths and English studies, will allow you to meet the entry requirements to progress to Level 2 study. You will develop the necessary transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed to progress to further study and ultimately to employment.

Entry requirements

Essential: 3 GCSEs grade 9 to 1.

Desirable: A desire to progress to Level 2 study.

What qualification will I gain?

BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continuously throughout your course. Assessment takes the form of assignments which are taken after the unit, or part of the unit, has been delivered.

  • Being organised
  • Developing a personal progression plan
  • Working with others
  • Researching a topic

Sector units:

  • IT – Creating a spreadsheet to solve problems
  • IT – Developing digital information using IT
  • Business – Branding a product
  • Business – Communication with others
  • Travel & Tourism – Exploring local visitor attractions
  • Travel & Tourism – Delivering customer service in Hospitality and Tourism

Next steps

Course progression:

Completion of the course, alongside English and maths, will enable you to progress to a Level 2 study programme.

Career progressions:

The course will help you to develop skills that will be valuable in a variety of full-time employment opportunities. You will develop the necessary transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed to progress to further study and ultimately to employment.

Funding Information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
