Competence in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate

This five-day course will give you the chance to learn more about the techniques involved with tree climbing in a safe and secure manner and performing four basic rescue methods. The NPTC qualification will demonstrate that you have the practical skills and technical knowledge required.

Entry requirements

Anyone can attend as there are no pre-requisites for this course – the use of a chainsaw is not involved.

What qualification will I gain?

Competence in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate.

Course content

What will I study?

Units on this course include:

  • Risk assessment and legislation
  • Health and safety
  • Selection and inspection of tree climbing equipment
  • Safe climbing and descent techniques
  • Basic aerial rescue techniques.

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Undertake a risk assessment of tree climbing operations
  • Select, inspect and use a range of tree climbing equipment
  • Safely climb a tree, move around the crown and descend to the ground
  • Carry out aerial rescues from different situations.

This course offers the NPTC Certificate of Competence as an additional qualification.

How will I be assessed?

The assessment for NPTC course normally takes place 10-14 days after the initial training and is a full day – the price is included in the course price.

Next steps

This course will be beneficial to your career if you are working in the horticulture or arboriculture industries, or if you are self-employed as a tree surgeon.

Additional information

To take part in this course you must bring PPE (personal protective equipment) and other tools and equipment as listed on the joining instructions. These will be emailed to you a few weeks before the course is due to start – please contact us to confirm you have the required items.

Funding Information

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
