Competence in the safe use of Mowers City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate

This qualification is aimed at individuals who operate mowers as part of their work in horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance, greenkeeping, parks, gardens and also in amenity use. It will provide the trainee with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to prepare and operate a mower safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation.

Entry requirements

Essential:

You must be 16 years old or over to undertake this course.

As this is a short and very intense course, you must be able to proficiently operate powered horticultural machinery used during the training.

What Qualification will I gain?

You will gain:

Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Mowers.

Course content

What will I study?

This qualification is aimed at individuals who operate mowers as part of their work in horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance, greenkeeping, parks, gardens and also in amenity use. It will provide the trainee with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to prepare and operate a mower safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation.

Candidates can chose to complete two units during this course, including:

  • 903 – Pedestrian controlled cylinder
  • 904 – Pedestrian controlled rotary
  • 905 – Pedestrian controlled flail
  • 907 – Ride on cylinder mow
  • 908 – Ride on rotary
  • 909 – Ride on Flail
  • 911 – Tractor mounted or trailed cylinder
  • 912 – Tractor mounted or trailed rotary
  • 913 – Tractor mounted flail
How will I be assessed?

The assessment is undertaken with either the trainer or an independent assessor and will be made up of both practical assessment and one to one questioning. The recommended duration for assessment is approximately 2 hours.

Additional information

This course is trained and assessed on site at College, however we are able to offer training and assessment to groups within industry settings following assessment of the facilities. Please contact the business development team to discuss your requirements.

You will be offered the correct PPE for this course (with the exception of safety footwear, which must be supplied by the trainee/candidate). Robust outdoor clothing should be worn, ideally coveralls or a boiler suit.
