Carpentry and Joinery (ST0264) Level 2 Apprenticeship

This occupation is found in both the new build and refurbishment construction sector. The construction industry is central to creating the homes, schools, hospitals, energy and transport infrastructure society needs.  There is growing demand for carpenters and joiners to help meet the need for new homes.

Course information

College attendance

Bedford – Block release 2 weeks

Wellingborough and Corby  – Day – one day a week

College Day Release intakes

September and October

However you may be able to start your apprenticeship within the workplace first.

When can the apprentice start employment?

When offered job role and start date agreed with employer.

When can the apprenticeship training start?

As soon as Apprentice starts employment. Arrangements will be made to start apprenticeship and college delivery.

Course content
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • Knowledge of construction technology
  • Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
  • Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
  • Set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery
  • Produce setting out details for routine joinery products
  • Mark out from setting out details for routine joinery products
  • Manufacture routine joinery products
Entry requirements

Grade requirements
• Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English
• GCSE grade 4 and above Maths and English

Other requirements
• Level 1 Equivalent or Grade 3 and above Maths and English

What training is required in the workplace? 

Learning a variety of skills to enable the apprentice to be able to develop and complete their Apprenticeship and EPA.

• 20% off the job training
• College attendance
• Regular 10/12/week Meetings with Training Coordinator, Manager and Apprentice to discuss progress and set SMART targets throughout apprenticeships
