This course will help learners gain an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to care for young children. Learners will complete some sessions in our fully equipped nursery at College.

Course content
This course will help learners gain an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to care for young children. Learners will complete some sessions in our fully equipped nursery at College.
Learners on this course will partake in a variety of practical and learning activities including:
- Studying Child Growth and Development
- Considering and following health and safety processes and procedures
- Learning about the importance of nutrition for children and ourselves
- Looking at elements of having a healthy lifestyle
- Understanding the link between play and learning
- Planning activities for children
- Taking part in enterprise events
- Exploring the different types of roles working with children (this course is a standalone course and does not confirm competence or licence to practice)
Learners will also develop their functional skills alongside their vocational timetable by attending specific maths and English sessions and having individualised targets in these areas.
Learners attend College for three days each week, 9am – 4pm. Group sizes are usually around eight learners.
Learners will be working on gaining an Entry level Certificate in Personal and Social skills OR Cache level 1 Diploma. Progress will be monitored using the RARPA process where personal targets will be set and regularly reviewed with the learner, parents, carers and other professionals.
Learners on this course will take part in some observations on children and have some hands on experience.
