Overview
Bookkeeping AAT Level 1 AwardThis qualification is ideal if you are new to the skills and knowledge required of bookkeepers, and will be suitable if you are studying in preparation for employment in bookkeeping job roles, or for further study in accountancy.
On completion of this course you will be well prepared to find employment in a bookkeeping role, or you could complete further study through the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Entry requirements
There are no formal requirements to start the course; however, a good level of English is required.
What qualification will I gain?
AAT Award in Bookkeeping Level 1.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via an AAT computer-based exam.
Course content
What will I study?
- Understand the role of a bookkeeper
- Understand financial transactions
- Process customer and supplier transactions
- Process receipts and payments
- Understand the benefits and risks of using accounting software to complete bookkeeping tasks
Next steps
Accounting technicians are skilled staff, employed in jobs ranging from clerks to accounts department managers.
They are also increasingly required in industry and commerce, so if you have AAT qualifications at any level your career prospects will be extremely good. On successful completion of this course you could also progress on to our Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping.
Additional information
These professional examinations require a high standard of preparation and commitment if success is to be achieved.
In addition to the course fees, you will also be required to purchase a book (Approximately £12) and register with the AAT (Approximately £44).
