Need to know

Entry requirements

You should have 4 GCSE grades 9-3 or equivalent, this should include English and maths.

You must also have a keen interest in the beauty industry and a willingness to learn.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of methods for each unit. There are 11 exams on the course, these are multiple choice on a computer. Within each unit you will complete written tasks, and complete a set number of practical assessments.

Course content

What will I study?

Beauty Therapy covers different aspects of Beauty Therapy such as Facials, Manicures, Pedicures, Make-up, Waxing and Eye Treatments.

All lessons take place at the main Kingsway campus in Dunstable.

How will I learn?

You will learn through a mix of theory and practical sessions, which will take place in our modern salons.

WHAT ADDITIONAL WORK OUTSIDE OF COLLEGE WILL I NEED TO DO?

You will be given short tasks to complete each week, which form the basis for your coursework.

Course progression:

Level 2 Hair and Media Make-Up, Level 3 Beauty, Apprenticeships, Level 2 Hairdressing.

Career progression:

Working in a salon/spa, setting up a business, hair and beauty retail, cruise ships, centre parcs, hotels and spas.

Equipment and other costs

You will need to purchase a kit, which costs £161. This will be used in all of your practical sessions, and is yours to keep at the end of the course. You will also be required to purchase a uniform which consists of a tunic and trousers, at a cost of £39.10 (plus P+P). The final part of the uniform is a pair of suitable black shoes, which you will need to provide.

DO I NEED TO FIND A WORK PLACEMENT? DO I NEED A DBS?

No, there is no work placement attached, but you will be given opportunities throughout the course to put yourself into a real world scenario.
