Ben
I moved to Bedford from around four hours away to study at the College because the course offered exactly what I wanted. Applied 3D Design is a good balance between a construction course and a design course. We cover both the designing process and building of the physical product, so we always have an end result and learn to adapt things as we go along.
I’ve had an interest in films and props since a young age. While I’ve designed and built things from home, this course is now teaching me how to do it properly.
The tutors are very helpful. Faye has her own wealth of knowledge coming from a jewellery background and working on a smaller scale to our other tutor, Amanda, who specialises in metal and wood work.
We’ve also had a technical speaker come in from Nikita Palmer Designs who helped us to build some items of upcycled furniture and introduced us to Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge; an upcycling art gallery in the city.
I want to get into the prop industry and have a few options open to me. I’m looking at the course at RADA in London, which has work placements in a studio. I’m also in contact with a prop master who offers trainee programmes as an advanced apprenticeship. The HNC course here at the College would also be a good way to expand my skills.
