Students will learn and develop skills needed for a range of financial processes, including maintaining cost accounting records, advanced bookkeeping and the preparation of financial reports and returns.

Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
This unit provides students with the skills required to produce statements of profit or loss and statements for financial position for sole traders and partnerships, using a trial balance. Students will gain the double-entry bookkeeping skills needed to record financial transactions into an organisation’s accounts using a manual bookkeeping system.
Tax Processes for Businesses
This unit explores tax processes that influence the daily operations of businesses and is designed to develop students’ skills in understanding, preparing and submitting Value Added Tax (VAT) returns to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The unit provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to keep businesses, employers and clients compliant with laws and practices that apply to VAT and payroll.
Management Accounting Techniques
This unit provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the role of management accounting in an organisation, and how organisations use such information to aid decision making. Students will learn the principles that underpin management accounting methodology and techniques, how costs are handled in organisations and why organisations treat costs in different ways.
Business Awareness
This unit provides students with an understanding of the business, its environment and the influences that this has on an organisation’s structure, the role of its accounting function and its performance. Students will examine the purpose and types for businesses that exist and the rights and responsibilities of the key stakeholders, as well as gain an understanding of the importance of professional ethics and ethical management within the finance function.
Accounting AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma.
Your knowledge and skills will be tested via computer based assessments (CBAs). These are run entirely on PCs or laptops.
The CBAs are marked in one of three ways:
- wholly computer marked, and so results will be available automatically
- partially computer marked and partially human marked, and so results will be available within six weeks
- wholly human marked, and so results will be available within six weeks.
Career progression:
If you successfully complete this qualification you can apply for AAT bookkeeping membership (AATQB).

Course progression:
On successful completion of this course you could progress on to the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.
These professional examinations require a high standard of preparation and considerable commitment if success is to be achieved.
In addition to the course fees, you will also be required to purchase a set of textbooks (approximately £120) and register with the AAT (approximately £235).

Funding Information
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
If you are aged 19 or over and want to achieve your first full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to an advanced technical certificate, diploma or A-Levels) then this course is free, as part of the National Skills Fund.
Part-time Fee Flow ChartIf you are aged 24 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
