Frequently Asked Questions

To help you prepare for your part in the evening, we have put together this short guide that answers most of the questions we have ever been asked!

If you would like us to clarify any points, or need to let us know of any special or particular requirements you may have, please contact Parveen Mann on achievementceremony@bedford.ac.uk

Why have I been nominated for an award?

Every year, award winners are chosen in recognition of their personal and/or academic achievement and invited to the presentation evening.

Where will I be sitting?

Towards the front of the hall with the other award winners.

Where will my guests be seated?

Because award winners have to be seated in a particular order to coincide with their names being called out to walk on to the stage, we are unable to seat guests and award winners together. Instead, guests will be seated towards the back of the hall.

Where will the event take place?

Our venue is King’s House at 245 Ampthill Road Bedford MK42 9AZ

When do I arrive on the evening?

Doors open 6.30pm. Please arrive no later than 7pm.

What do I do if my name or course title is incorrect on the email I received?

Please contact achievementceremony@bedford.ac.uk.  Please also ensure that when you complete the online form, you enter your name exactly as you would like it to appear on the certificate.

What should I wear?

The dress code is smart/casual and our theme this year is Black and White. What you wear is really up to you – in previous years we have had some award winners come in formal dresses and a suit and tie, whereas others have dressed more casually in smart trousers/skirts, open neck shirts, t-shirts and tops. We would however ask that you do not wear jeans or trainers.

How is my award presented?

Your name will be announced and you will be ushered to the stage with a group of other award winners. You then go up five steps on to the stage to receive your award. If you are likely to have trouble walking up the steps, please let us know and we will make alternative arrangements.

What happens on the stage?

The guest speaker and Chief Executive congratulate you, shake your hand and give you your certificate.

Do I have to say anything?

No, you don’t have to make a speech or talk in public.

Can I take photos?

After the presentations, many families and friends like to take their own photographs in the hall and there is plenty of time for this.

What happens after the presentations?

Most people choose to stay to enjoy refreshments and to meet up with friends and other students.

Do I have to pay for anything?

There are charges for gown hire and the studio photographs (higher education students only). Please note: both gowns and photographs are optional.

Is there parking available?

Parking is available on site and is free of charge.
