Students across Bedfordshire are celebrating outstanding Level 2 vocational results, with 13 courses at The Bedford College Group achieving 100% pass rates.

The results come as Prime Minister Andy Burnham puts a renewed national focus on technical and vocational education, with plans to give young people greater access to technical pathways and create clearer routes into skilled employment.

At Bedford College, five courses achieved 100% pass rates: Vehicle Accident Repair Principles, Carpentry & Joinery, Business, Barbering and Travel & Tourism.

At Central Bedfordshire College, eight courses recorded 100% pass rates, spanning Beauty Therapy, Hair & Media Makeup, Animal Care, Engineering, Computing, Sport, Uniformed Services and Skills for Business.

Top marks for Bedfordshire students

The success across such a diverse range of subjects highlights the breadth of technical and vocational opportunities available to young people in Bedfordshire and the different routes students can take towards further study, apprenticeships and employment.

Daniel Norman, aged 18 from Bedford College, passed his Motor vehicle level 2 and achieved an impressive grade 5 in his English GSCE resit, having previously achieved a grade 3.

Daniel said:

“My teacher Georgina was lovely, and the teaching has been amazing.  Overall, it has great experience and I am staying on to take Motor Vehicle level 3, as I hope to get a placement at a garage.”

The results follow the Prime Minister’s recent announcement of plans to expand technical education from the age of 14, enabling young people to combine core academic subjects with technical learning, work experience and stronger links with employers.

Dr Robin Webber-Jones, Deputy CEO and Executive Director for Curriculum said:

“We’re incredibly proud of our students. These results demonstrate not only their hard work, but the variety of technical and vocational education available across Bedfordshire.

“From engineering and construction to computing, business and animal care, these qualifications equip young people with valuable skills and provide strong foundations for their next steps.”
