The Bedford College Group is celebrating the dedication and determination of students across their campuses in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire after receiving their GCSE resit results in Maths and English.
Students from across the Group, including Central Bedfordshire College, Bedford College, Shuttleworth College and Tresham College in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough, have shown real commitment throughout the year, balancing studies alongside college courses, work placements and personal responsibilities. Staff across the Group have praised students for the effort they have put in, with many making significant progress and achieving the grades they need for their next steps.
GCSE resits in Maths and English are a vital opportunity, helping students build confidence and improve the qualifications needed for further study, apprenticeships and employment. For many, achieving these grades is the result of determined hard work, attending revision sessions, completing coursework, and staying focused even when the pressure is high, and it is even more impressive when you consider that many of these students sat their exams after just six weeks of studying at college.
Supporting students to achieve a grade 4 in English and maths can be life-changing, improving their chances of progressing on to university and opening the door to better employment opportunities and greater earning potential.
This year’s resit results highlight exceptional progress across The Bedford College Group, with over 1100 learners improving either their English or maths by at least one grade.
Anthony Hart, Group Director of English and Maths at The Bedford College Group, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students and everything they have achieved. GCSE Maths and English resits take real resilience; they demand commitment, determination and the willingness to keep going even when it’s tough. Our students have put in a huge amount of work this year, and these results reflect the effort they’ve shown in every lesson, every revision session and every step of the journey. Well done to every student who has worked so hard to reach this point and thank you to our staff teams who have supported them throughout.”Bedford College student Jaz Caswill, who is currently studying Childcare, achieved a Maths Grade: 4, said:
“This grade has allowed me to now apply and get an offer from a University. The University of Lincoln or Northampton is my preferred choice, and I’m really happy as I am really looking forward to going to university.”
Tori Cavill, who studies at Tresham College in Kettering, also shared her relief after receiving her result:
“This is my third resit of maths, and I am so relieved. I’m planning to go into being a massage therapist, and this pass means I can apply to more jobs and it opens more doors for me. I’m grateful to everyone who supported me at Tresham College.”
Meanwhile, Sophie Webb, who is studying the Horticulture T-Level at Shuttleworth College, achieved a Grade 5 in English. She added:
“I’m really happy as I needed this to complete the course. I was one mark off when applying for the T Level, but Shuttleworth allowed me on, and I managed a 5.”
The Bedford College Group is committed to supporting students to achieve success, with targeted teaching approaches and additional support available throughout the year, including small-group tuition, intervention sessions, revision workshops and one-to-one guidance.
