The Bedford College Group, which has campuses across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, has joined forces with M Group.
This gives students more opportunities to gain experience and find out about careers in infrastructure and engineering.
One of the UK’s leading infrastructure services providers, M Group operates across the transport, water, energy, technology and communications sectors. That breadth of services makes M Group the fourth largest contractor in the UK.
Creating opportunities for students
The relationship with The Bedford College Group is a new one, but is already creating opportunities for students.
M Group is taking on a Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician apprentice through Bedford College, who is due to start shortly, and is planning to provide an industry placement for an Engineering T Level student during this academic year.
M Group already supports apprenticeships across its organisation and is exploring how it can develop further apprenticeship pathways with The Bedford College Group in the future, as well as expanding work experience opportunities for students.
The company will also attend the Freshers’ Fair at Central Bedfordshire College in Dunstable, its closest Group campus, where students will be able to meet the team and find out more about the company and its work. Further plans include a talk for Engineering students about careers in the industry and M Group’s work locally, while the possibility of setting an employer project for students is also being explored.
Rachel Roberts, Partnership Manager at The Bedford College Group, said:
“Our students see infrastructure around them every day, but they may not always realise the range of careers and skills that sit behind it.
“Working with M Group gives them the opportunity to hear directly from people in the industry, gain practical experience and understand where their studies could take them.
“It is particularly exciting that the partnership is starting with real opportunities, including an apprenticeship and a T Level industry placement, and we hope to build on that as the relationship develops.”
Ellie Dias, People Business Partner at M Group, said:
“We are pleased to be working with The Bedford College Group and to give students the chance to find out more about the careers available within our industry.
“Apprenticeships and industry placements give people valuable experience at the start of their careers, and we are looking forward to welcoming our new apprentice and working with The Bedford College Group on further opportunities for students.”
Through The Bedford College Group’s Employer Partnership Scheme, employers commit to supporting a range of activities throughout the academic year, giving students more opportunities to work with employers, learn about different careers and understand what businesses are looking for.
