Shuttleworth College, part of The Bedford College Group, is pleased to announce that their residential provision has received a ‘Good’ rating overall from Ofsted following a recent inspection.
The College, which offers agricultural and environmental education, as well as animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure, currently has 23 residential students under the age of 18 and 26 residential students over 18, accommodated in residential halls on the historic site.
The inspection report rated Shuttleworth College’s residential provision as ‘Good’ for overall experiences and progress of young people, how well young people are helped and protected, and the effectiveness of leadership and management.
Inspectors concluded that the College provides effective services that meet all requirements for a good standard.
Inspectors found that students feel safe, respected and well cared for, with strong, trusting relationships between staff and students. Students also benefit from good mental health and wellbeing support.
One parent said about their son,
“He has transformed. He is a different child. He was miserable at school. [He] came out with one GCSE, has gone to college and is now so happy, confident and making progress academically. This has been the best decision ever.”
Ofsted praised the leadership team’s high aspirations, robust oversight and positive staff culture. Leaders were described as approachable and ambitious, with clear development plans in place to further strengthen the residential provision and ensure continuous improvement.
Yiannis Koursis OBE, CEO of The Bedford College Group said:
“We are very proud that Shuttleworth College’s residential provision has been recognised as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. This outcome reflects the dedication of our staff and their unwavering commitment to creating a safe, supportive and enriching environment where every student can thrive.”
Jessica Leech, Executive Director of Student Experience and Inclusion said:
“Our residential provision plays a vital role in opening up opportunities for students from a wider geographical area to access Shuttleworth’s specialist provision and benefit from the unique learning environment we provide. But that only works if we have complete trust and confidence from parents that their children will be well looked after and happy here. To see such positive feedback from families and students about their experience at Shuttleworth College shows we are doing a good job.”
“We will continue to build on this strong foundation, striving for excellence and ensuring that all our students receive the very best support during their time with us.”
