The best universities leading to the best life chances now await those who choose The Bedford College Group, including The Bedford Sixth Form, for their 16+ study, according to the latest statistics.
Students last year went on to 16 of the 24 exclusive Russell Group universities, which includes Oxbridge colleges. Russell Group sets the UK gold standard, world-ranking universities which offer the most outstanding career and life opportunities.
Other universities or colleges who lead in their specialist fields, or professional degree-level courses were also the destination of those going on from A Levels, or other “Level 3” qualifications into Higher Education via The Bedford College Group.
The number of students progressing from Bedford College, including Shuttleworth College, moving on to Higher Education, the gateway to great jobs, increased from 462 to 545 in 2016/17.
Jobs at 18+
Further evidence from 2016/17 shows that those who want to go straight into work at 18 (after compulsory education is over), that 9 out of 10 who studied at Bedford College campuses or at the Shuttleworth country site, were in employment. More than ever before using Bedford College as a gateway to employment.

Come here 16 and take an academic route in an adult environment heading towards university at 18, or try a specialist or professional full-time course leading to a job at 18, or earn while you learn with an apprenticeship from the age of 16.
“It’s all about choices and people’s own time frames. Some people may come here at 16 and give themselves time to decide where their future path lies. Older students via Access can go back to the degree option in their late 20s or 30s. The options do not end at 16 or 18, they go on throughout your lifetime,” said The Bedford College Group Vice Principal Corrie Harris.
At Tresham College in Northamptonshire, which merged with Bedford College to form The Bedford College Group in August 2017: Access students showed great success in finding employment. Of 40 who completed a course in 2016/17 only 2.5% were not in work.
In overall Further Education studies at 2016/17 at Tresham 42.7% went on to full-time employment and 15.7% when into an apprenticeship or traineeship and 22% in to HE/degree level learning.
