Regional summit explores stronger pathways to education, training and employment

Education, employment and careers leaders from across the South Midlands met in Bedford last week for the Stronger Transitions: A South Midlands Regional Summit.

The event was hosted by The Bedford College Group in partnership with the South Midlands Careers Hub.

The summit explored practical ways to strengthen support for young people as they move into education, training and employment. Education providers, employers, careers professionals and policymakers shared best practice, discussed common challenges and identified opportunities to work more closely together across the South Midlands.

Reflecting on the summit, Dr Robin Webber-Jones, Deputy CEO and Executive Director of Curriculum at The Bedford College Group, said:

“Supporting young people as they move into further education, employment or training is something no single organisation can do alone. Collaborative working is central to our Transition Strategy, and bringing together partners from across the South Midlands has allowed us to share ideas, learn from one another and identify practical ways to better support young people.

The conversations throughout the summit showed just how much can be achieved when organisations work together with a shared goal. We look forward to turning those conversations into meaningful action and continuing to work with our partners to help more young people achieve positive futures.”

Partners will continue to build on the ideas shared during the summit, working together to strengthen support for young people across the South Midlands.
