More exciting than ever this year was the Outdoor Adventure âEmployers Eventâ that has been run for many years at the Shuttleworth College.
The companies in attendance on November 21st were: PGL, UKSA, Essex Outdoors, Box End Park, Rockley Watersports, Willen Lake (Parks Trust), Action4Youth (Caldecotte), Fin Divers, Canoe Trial, Scouts, Southlake Watersports, Centre Parcs and Grafham Water Centre.

Invaluable experience
Said Helen Day of Shuttleworth College:
âThis event allows Outdoor Adventure students to meet with employers and gain an understanding of the skills required to work within such organisations. Students have to wear business attire and this year they looked particularly smart
âBefore the event all individuals produce a suitable CV which is then handed to employers for review and feedback.
âThroughout the morning, the learners were given the chance to talk to each employer regarding what is required to work for them.
âDuring the afternoon, the visiting organisations conducted interviews for paid-posts, with some students already securing positions!
Feedback was provided individually on how well they presented themselves and how they could develop their CVs and interview skills. This gave students first-hand experience of what it would feel like to have a formal one-to-one interview and although several learners were nervous beforehand, all were extremely proud of themselves by the end of the afternoon.”

A promising cohort
Helen continued:
âThis event was a huge success, and it shows how dedicated our staff are to providing the best learning experience for the students.
âA massive thank you must be given to the employers for attending, with many travelling from various regions of the country and one from overseas.
âFrom this event, 18 learners have been invited to visit Rockley Watersports, eight to Essex Outdoors and 12 are visiting Canoe Trail.Â
âThere is no doubt that this cohort of learners are going to do very well.â
