MP Rachel Hopkins visited Central Bedfordshire College last week as part of the Association of Colleges (AoC) national Colleges Week celebrations.
She met students and staff and learning more about the vital role further education plays in supporting local communities and careers.
During her visit to the college, Rachel met with Sue Hadfield, Principal at Central Bedfordshire College, and Danny Faulkner, Group Head of Student Engagement, to hear about the wide range of opportunities available to students, from T Levels and apprenticeships to community learning and foundation programmes.
Student ambassadors Kiren and Gold shared their personal learning journeys and spoke about why they chose to study at the College, highlighting the supportive staff, inclusive environment and strong pastoral support available to students.
Danny Faulkner said:
“Our excellent student ambassadors, Kiren and Gold, shared their inspiring learning journeys and their experience at CBC with Rachel. They spoke passionately about why they chose our college, praising the supportive staff and the welcoming environment and wider support that helped them thrive. They also spoke about the wide range of courses including community learning, T Levels, apprenticeships and foundation learning that the College offers.”
Rachel also toured the campus, visiting a variety of teaching and social spaces including digital media and e-sports facilities, catering kitchens, supported internships, hair and beauty salons, health and social care training areas, the Learning Resources Centre and the College’s Much and Mocha refectory.
Danny added:
“Meeting both staff and learners brought the College to life, giving Rachel a true sense of what it feels like to be part of our vibrant learning community.”
Colleges Week is a national campaign run by the AoC celebrating the impact of further education colleges on learners, communities and local economies across the UK.
