Pupils from Edith Cavell Primary School visited the Shuttleworth Activity Centre run by Shuttleworth College for a two day camping trip earlier this month.
The pupils camped overnight in tents at the Shuttleworth Activity Centre to enjoy a series of outdoor adventures such as canoeing, archery, raft building, crate stacking and various problem solving games.
Students from Shuttleworth College develop various programmes around specific aims and objectives for the visitors to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the day.
Heather Cooke, Headteacher, said:
This is the sixth year that I have brought my Year 4 students camping at Shuttleworth. We chose the Shuttleworth Activity Centre because it’s fairly close but most importantly the children are given the opportunity to do activities that they haven’t done before and I can’t give them these opportunities at school.
The Centre is run by Shuttleworth College Outdoor Adventure students who work with highly trained and qualified staff to organise events and lead activities at the centre. This experience at the centre allows them to develop the skills to work with a range of clients once they complete their course and progress into careers in outdoor related occupations.
