Tresham College, part of The Bedford College Group, saw its Kettering campus bustling with energy this week as nearly 400 students and local jobseekers attended a major Recruitment, Skills and Careers Event held in collaboration with North Northamptonshire Council, Jobcentre Plus, and Workpays.

The event brought together nearly 50 employers, all showcasing local job opportunities and career pathways. Attendees were able to find out more about employment opportunities from the organisations present, as well as training options designed to help people into work, including apprenticeships, part-time courses, and T Levels offered through Tresham College.

Seminars and employer-led talks have now been introduced as part of these events, giving attendees the chance to hear directly from businesses about local opportunities, workplace expectations, and career development.

Greg Ward, Economic Development Service Manager at North Northamptonshire Council, praised the success of the event, saying:

“North Northamptonshire Council are one of the founding partners of these fantastic events, and the wide variety of job vacancies has been fantastic. Nearly 400 jobseekers and students have been in attendance with a packed programme including seminars from local companies who are hiring, such as Morrisons, Eurokey and Navara Oat Milling Ltd. One attendee commented that this was the best recruitment event they had attended!”

Long-standing partnership

The event is part of a long-standing partnership between Tresham College and local stakeholders, aimed at supporting residents into education, training, and employment.

Nuala Whelan, DWP South Midlands Senior Employer Partnership Lead, added:

“These events are an amazing combination of employers and community partners coming together to tackle ‘NEETs’ in this area, people not in employment, education or training. We are extremely grateful to Tresham College and the many employers for helping us get local people on track for the next stage of their careers.”

Cheryl Needham, Head of Adult & Community Learning at Tresham College, also reflected on the continued growth and community impact of the event:

“We are thrilled to be starting seminars and talks by employers for these events, discussing all things from vacancies to career progression. It gives even more depth to the event and helps open up the conversation for attendees to hear more information about local employers and opportunities, alongside our usual stall format. We’re always trying to develop and continuously improve these events, and on behalf of Tresham College, we would like to thank all attendees, employers and community partners for consistently making these events a huge success.”

Through collaboration between North Northamptonshire Council, Jobcentre Plus, Workpays, and Tresham College, the Recruitment, Skills and Careers Event continues to play a vital role in helping people explore new career pathways and access the support they need to progress.

Tresham College’s expert advisors were also on hand to guide visitors through its extensive range of courses, from adult education and apprenticeships to T Levels and part-time training, helping people understand how to upskill or retrain for the future.

With strong partnerships and a shared commitment to supporting local residents, Tresham College remains at the heart of developing skills, fostering employment, and building a future-ready workforce for North Northamptonshire.
