Helping sports students fit into the team

A clever arrangement for sports students at Tresham College means all can be kitted out in top quality gear for games.

Students are asked to buy their sportswear from Kitlocker, but for some low family incomes, the cost of £150 can be a challenge. Now a combination of “cashback” from Kitlocker and funds via The Bedford College Group means everyone can be dressed to achieve their personal best.

Level playing field

Head of Sport at Tresham College, Tom Kay said:

“Finding £150 on top of other family costs can be an added challenge these days so we have a deal with Kitlocker that they give the college a small percentage back on sales, and we then use this to help subsidise or buy kits for those who fall below the recognised low income level. This way everyone in the team is on a level playing field when it comes to kit and sports wear and we are all helping each other.”

The Bedford College Group gives away £2 million a year in Government and other grants and bursaries to students. These funds are non-repayable and are in addition to any student loans.

These monies can be made available to support those were there is a cost for trips or for sports teams, away games where transport is required.
