Bedford College welcomed the extension for the first time of the Bedford River Festival on to St Mary’s Gardens.
The riverside setting gave students from the South Bank Arts Centre the chance to show off their talents with both performing arts and stage make-up artists in action.
Since the opening of the commercial centre opposite, Riverside, and of a new footbridge crossing, Bedford Borough Council decided to extend the length of the Bedford River Festival to the south bank gardens, usually a quiet area, used only by students.
It sprung into life on Saturday morning (July 14th) with a stage sponsored by Charlie Wells beers, an arts village and outdoor activity centre where Shuttleworth College offered virtual reality snow-boarding experiences to people passing by.
A group from performing arts took to the new platform to sing, and their off-stage associates from the arts offered stage face painting.
