The Bedford College Group, which has campuses across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, has welcomed Blade Flooring Ltd to its Employer Partnership Scheme.
This strengthens links between education and industry and supporting the next generation of construction professionals.
Blade Flooring Ltd, a Bedford-based business specialising in professional flooring installation services, will work closely with the Group to provide students with valuable industry insight, practical knowledge and career inspiration.
Through the Employer Partnership Scheme, employers commit to supporting a range of activities throughout the academic year, helping students gain real-world experience and a better understanding of industry expectations and career opportunities.
As part of the new partnership, Blade Flooring will join The Group’s Construction Industry Advisory Boards, contributing their knowledge and expertise to help shape the curriculum in response to evolving industry skills gaps and workforce needs.
Focusing on opportunities
Blade Flooring is also planning a series of talks and workshops for students, focusing on opportunities within the construction sector and the realities of self-employment within the trade.
Sessions are expected to cover practical business skills, including insurance, tax, invoicing, quoting and estimating, alongside the Maths and English skills used in everyday working environments.
Tim Dodsworth, Director of Blade Flooring Ltd, said:
“Blade is excited to be partnering with The Bedford College Group to support students by providing industry experience and helping them choose the right career path. The impending Universal Studios project, and the anticipated ripple effect across the region, mean Bedfordshire is about to experience a boom in construction opportunities for students. Local businesses need to get involved in education to make sure students have the right skills to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Myself and Blade’s other Director, Tim Hill, both went to school in Bedford and are proud to have built a local business that now employs more than 45 people across the region. Hopefully, we can now inspire more young people to consider a role in the construction industry.”
Rachel Roberts, Partnership Manager at The Bedford College Group, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Blade Flooring Ltd as an Employer Partner of The Bedford College Group. Partnerships with local employers are vital in helping students gain meaningful insight into industry and understand the skills employers are looking for. Blade Flooring’s commitment to supporting young people and sharing real-world experience will provide valuable opportunities for our students as they prepare for careers in the construction sector. We look forward to working together to inspire the next generation of skilled professionals.”
Ongoing commitment
The partnership reflects The Bedford College Group’s ongoing commitment to working closely with employers to ensure students gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed for successful careers, while supporting local businesses and the regional economy.
