Fisheries carp cups

Fisheries students at Shuttleworth College were invited to help marshall the Mixed Carp Cups Southern Final from the 29 September to the 1 October 2017.

The event is part of the British Carp Cups and gave students real insight in to how a commercial fishing event is run.

40 competitors took part in teams of two and Shuttleworth students were responsible for weighing and verifying the catches and running the scoreboard. The event was sponsored by Shuttleworth College, BT Sport, Fosters Birmingham and Reuben Heaton.

There were 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for the largest accumulative weight with the winner taking home £500, a trophy and a set of Reuben Heaton scales.

Lewie Cooper, Fisheries & Fish Management Lecturer, enthused: “The event tied in nicely with the Angling Event Unit for our Level 3 first and second year students. It gave them insight into how events are planned on a commercial scale and an opportunity to network with people in the industry.”
