Building trust in T-levels

Cauldwell Campus students

The Bedford College Group is a reliable provider of all 16+ education and qualifications for students in the region.

It is now helping to prepare the way with employers for new T-levels by supporting a pilot in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire to trial extended industry placements with students lasting between 45 and 55 days per year.

T-levels are two-year technical study programmes. They offer an additional pathway for school leavers, alongside Apprenticeships and A-Levels.

The point of difference is that they include long term industry placements giving young people extended exposure to the work environment.

The industry placements have improved students’ technical skills, employability skills, and confidence levels. Some students were offered part-time work and potential apprenticeship opportunities through their industry placement employer.

Vice Principal Corrie Harris who is leading on T-levels said: “We are working closely now with employers across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire to prepare the way for introducing this new industry-friendly qualification in line with the Government’s intended national launch in 2020.

“The Bedford College Group is already known for working with 1,000s of businesses across the region and for leading the way in quality apprenticeships. The T-levels will help to bridge the huge demand from industry for technical study and resulting skills.”
