Rebecca (Becky) Richards is taking a career in engineering one sensible step at a time.
Becky, of Flitwick Bedfordshire, tested the water with T-Level work experience at a coding company, thanks to the employer connections of Bedford College.
She then started on a full-time Level 3 course at The Bedford College Group and progressed to an apprenticeship with international Lockheed Martin at Ampthill, Beds where she moved through the HNC and on to HND training. She hopes to upgrade to a BSc in electronic engineering, at Bedford College of course.
Becky represented Lockheed Martin in the Rising Star category in the East Midlands Region of the National Apprenticeships Awards.
Mark Lawson, Head of Engineering Technical Facilities of Lockheed Martin who logged on to the October 2021 awards event via a live stream said:
“There was a truly amazing array of talent on display.
“Whilst Becky was not selected as the overall winner in the ‘Rising Star’ category we are immensely proud to have been part of the event, and for Becky to have been considered alongside the other great candidates.
“Becky will continue to work through the HND stage of her apprenticeship, and we certainly view her as one of LMUK Ampthill’s Rising Stars.
“Once again, congratulations Becky! We are proud to have you on our team.”
STEM Science Technology Engineering and Maths subjects are top of the agenda at The Bedford College Group where people can progress from the age of 16 on to BSc degrees.
