Tresham College’s Higher National Certificate, Fine Art and Photography students are excited to open their highly anticipated creative art exhibition to the public following a successful preview event.

After months of preparation and hard work, the exhibition will run from Friday 1 May to Wednesday 3 June at the historic Lyveden New Bield, a National Trust property near Oundle, Northamptonshire.

This year’s theme, Resistance, takes inspiration from Lyveden and its surrounding landscape, encouraging students to challenge their practice by exploring new media and developing ideas through experimental approaches. The work on display spans a range of disciplines, including fine art and photography, reflecting both personal responses and broader interpretations of the theme.

The exhibition offers students valuable experience of presenting work in a professional setting, helping to build confidence and prepare them for future careers in the arts. It also provides an opportunity for visitors to engage with emerging talent and gain insight into contemporary creative practice.

The showcase holds particular significance for Tresham College, as Lyveden was acquired in 1559 by Sir Thomas Tresham, after whom the institution is named. The historic setting provides a unique backdrop, enriching the dialogue between past and present through the students’ work.

James Corbett, Course Lead for Art and Design at Tresham College, said:

“This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for our students to push the boundaries of their practice and respond to such a historically rich and inspiring site. Working within a National Trust property gives them invaluable insight into exhibiting in a professional, public-facing environment, and the results are both thoughtful and ambitious. It’s a chance for visitors to see a diverse range of work that demonstrates both technical skill and conceptual depth.”

The exhibition will be displayed in the upstairs Common Room of the manor at Lyveden New Bield and will be open daily from 10am to 5pm.
