Entry requirements

You must be at least 16 years old and be employed in a school. Experience of working in a school for twelve months.

Course content

During the course you will undertake 16 Mandatory Units:

  • Schools and Colleges as Organisations
  • Support Health and Safety in a learning environment
  • Understand how to Safeguard Children and Young People
  • Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Understand how Children & Young People Develop
  • Support positive behaviour in children and young people
  • Support children and young people during learning activities
  • Support English and maths skills
  • Support the use of ICT in the learning environment
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Engage in personal and professional development
  • Support children and young people’s speech, language and communication
  • Understand how to support learning of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Support children and young people during transitions
  • Support the role of play, leisure and extra-curricular activities for children and young people
Assessment methods

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. You will have to access an e-portfolio, complete written assignments, activities, and undertake online learning. An assessor will also visit you in the placement to carry out observations.

Qualifications

You will gain:

  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning
Further study and career options

Course progression: Learners achieving the Level 3 Diploma can progress onto the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges, foundation degree, or specialist roles within the workforce. This qualification has UCAS points as follows: Pass – 32

Career progression: Preparation or continual professional development for employment within a school or college environment
