The Engineering Higher National Certificate (HNC) programme will enable you to enhance your understanding of engineering and help your career advancement.
This course is for you if you are already working in a technical role within the engineering industry and are looking to obtain a vocational qualification at a higher level to support your position or to progress within your organisation.
If you are a trainee or an apprentice and have already completed your Level 3 in an appropriate engineering discipline then this qualification will equip you with the knowledge and understanding you need to develop your career in mechanical and manufacturing engineering at a higher level.

Need to know
You will need:
- 2 full A-Levels at grade A*-C in Mathematics and Physics, OR
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma (120 credits) in Mechanical Engineering (at Merit or above), including Further Maths, OR
- An equivalent Level 3 qualification (120 credits) in a related Engineering discipline (at Merit or above), including Further Maths.
In addition to one of the above it is expected that you have GCSE (A*-C or 9-4) or Level 2 equivalent qualifications at a pass level in English Language, Mathematics and can demonstrate competence in ICT.
If you do not fully meet the above criteria it may be possible to gain entry to the course by firstly undertaking bridging units in Level 3 Maths/Further Maths and Mechanical Principles which can be discussed. At interview you may be asked to demonstrate a sound understanding of mathematics and engineering principles.

Mechanical Engineering HNC.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is on a continuing basis and will include a range of assessment methods, such as: time-constrained tests (open and or closed-book), assignments, practical lab-works, research, presentations (individual and group) etc.

- Engineering Mathematics 1
- Electro-Mechanical Fundamental Science
- Pneumatic and Hydraulic Applications
- Materials Engineering
- Mechanical Principles
- Manufacturing Processes
After successful completion of the HNC, you can apply to progress on to the HND.
During the course, you will be required to attend college for one day a week, for a period of two years. Additional study and reading will be required and expected outside of College.
