Overview
Lantra Lambing TechniquesA one day course to give you the practical skills and knowledge to lamb ewes and to deal with minor problems. This course will cover preparation for lambing, signs of lambing and care of the new-born lamb, routine welfare and management tasks. The course is designed to support people entering the livestock industry, setting up your own flock of sheep or a refresher for skills and knowledge of the lambing season.
Studying this course you will have access to the college farms lambing facilities and flock of 200 breeding ewes which lamb between January and March. You will have a hands on experience working with and learning the skills required to support lambing activities.

Course content
The course covers care of ewes and lambs before and after lambing. The emphasis is on animal welfare, biosecurity and good practice. The course is taught in a supportive atmosphere using the college’s 200 ewe flock.

Additional information
To study this course you will be required to have the following PPE:
- Steel Toe Capped Boots or Wellington Boots
- 1 Pair of Overalls or water proof coveralls
Due to biosecurity you will not be able to undertake this course if you are pregnant.
