Engineering Intermediate (Level 2)

Duration: 1 year

3 GCSEs grades 9-3 OR equivalent qualification at Level 1.

Subject units:

• Working practices in engineering
• Using and interpreting engineering information
• Applied electrical and mechanical science for technicians
• Mathematics for engineering technicians
• You will also study a range of specialist units:
  • • Selecting engineering materials
    • Selecting and using secondary machining techniques to remove material
    • Marking out electronic circuit construction and testing
• English and maths:
  If you don’t already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills.
• • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications: 
  • You will develop your practical skills during the course.

You will be assessed continually throughout the study programme using a range of methods, such as phase tests, assignments and practical tests.

You will gain:

• Engineering Technologies VRQ Level 2 Diploma

Plus:

• English and maths qualifications if required

On successful completion of this study programme, you can progress onto the Engineering EAL Diploma in Engineering Technologies level 3 course which is a natural step up from the Level 2 course. From here you can go on to specialise in mechanical, or electrical and electronic engineering. Alternatively, you can progress into employment in the engineering industry at apprentice level.

To take part in this study programme there will be an additional fee of approximately £30 for required clothing/uniform and £25 to attend trips that will complement your course.
