Electrical & Electronic Engineering HNC (Part time)

The Engineering Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes will enable you to enhance your understanding of engineering and help your career advancement. By studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering you can choose from a range of units that will allow you to tailor your studies towards electronics or electrical power, or a combination of the two.

On successful completion of the HND you will have the option to top-up the qualification to a full Bachelor’s degree at Bedford College or another university, or enter employment. The course can allow you to take advantage of management opportunities within the industry.

Entry requirements

2 A-Levels at Grade A*-C (including Mathematics and Physics), OR BTEC Level 3 Diploma (120 credits) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (at Merit or above) including Further Maths, OR An equivalent Level 3 qualification (120 credits) in a related engineering discipline (at Merit or above) including Further Maths We also welcome applications from mature students who will be considered individually on experience rather than qualifications.

Assessment method

Teaching is focused upon a student centred approach, with an emphasis on you designing and evaluating electrical and electronic circuits and systems. You will be using Computer Aided Design packages as well as undertaking practical circuit work. You will be assessed by a programme of continuous assessment – this programme will comprise a combination of individual assignments, group assignments, project work and some formal tests.
