Bedford College Childcare Level 3
Care & Childcare

Leon

When I left school I knew I wanted to work in a care setting. I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to go into care for the elderly or child care, but this course at Bedford College looked interesting. Before I started the course, I didn’t have much experience of childcare, apart from having babysat my nieces a few times, so it was a completely new area for me.

I started on the Level 2 course and have worked my way up to Level 3. My tutors are very supportive, although there is a lot more responsibility at College compared to school. You are responsible for your own learning and it’s up to you to work hard.

All students have to attend a work placement as part of the course. I am currently doing mine at Hills Lower nursery school. The children are three and four years old and I help out in the nursery and interact with the children.

We have had speakers come in to talk to us about various aspects of care and childcare. The theory work is also very interesting and I particularly enjoyed learning about safeguarding and the legislation behind it.

Once I finish the Level 3 course I’m hoping to go to university to study Psychology & Mental Health.
