Agriculture Foundation Degree (FdSc) Level 5 (full-time)

This course will provide you with high-quality, advanced skills and knowledge in sustainable crop production, livestock and land management. You will gain practical skills on our College farm combined with advanced scientific, technical and business enterprise skills which are key components of the course. You will also gain valuable industry experience through work related activity.

Entry requirements
  •  32-48 UCAS points including a science OR
  • An Advanced Level 3 qualification in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Countryside, Fish Management, Horticulture, Animal Management, Modern Advanced Apprenticeship, or Access to HE qualification with good references OR
  • An equivalent Level 3 qualification

We also welcome applications from mature students who will be invited in for an interview and considered individually on experience rather than qualifications.

Course content

Units you can study include: business development in agriculture and land management; scientific methods for agricultural management; sustainable crop production; livestock husbandry, health and welfare; sustainable land management; business enterprise in the agricultural sector; agricultural science and biotechnology; investigating sustainable agriculture.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed through reports, course work, group work and presentations, as well as practical assessments and final exams set in the first and second year for four of the units.

Further study and career options

Progression for successful students will lead to a final year of study to gain a Bachelor of Science Degree. The qualification will provide you with access into employment in the industry or further progression to other Undergraduate institutes.
